A second match between Sporting and Besiktas, after first one in Turkey finished with 1-4 in favor of Sporting. The Portuguese completely outplayed the Turks in their first match. They let Besiktas control the match with posession, but they were actually a much more dangerous team and were absolutely clinical infront of the opponent's goal. The same is expected in their second leg and everything beside a comfortable home win would be a suprise.
Sporting is still unbeaten in domestic competitions this season, with their only 2 defeats against Borussia Dortmund and Ajax in the Champions League. Ajax completely outplayed them, but they deserved a point against Borussia and displayed a good performance in that match. They are in superb form currently as they have won their last 6 consecutive matches and scored 14 goals in that period. They are sitting right behind Porto in Liga Portugal with same number of points but have a worse goal difference. In Champions League, they are 3rd with 3 points, that is 3 points behind Borussia and 6 points behind Ajax. It is already clear that they will be battling with Borussia for 2nd place and I would not be shocked if they actually finish 2nd in their group. They should take the win against Besiktas in a comfortable manner, as they are clearly a better team. They are not missing any important players, but Besiktas, on the other hand, is missing a few key players which they did not miss in the first leg and they still couldn't provide much resistance to the Portuguese.
Missing players: T. Tomas (injury)
Besiktas is in a much worse situation than Sporting. They are currently 5th in Turkish Super Lig and their perfomances have dropped significantly from the level they were performing at in the start of the season. After winning 4 and drawing 2 from their first 6 matches, they lost 3 out of their last 4 matches and are struggling to bounce back on the right track. In the Champions League, they have lost all 3 matches and it seems like they don't have any real chances to finish higher than 4th in their group. It is a must for them to win against Sporting if they wish to keep even the smallest chances alive, but they just don't possess enough quality to do that at the moment. Even though Turks are known for their temperament and passion, I think they already gave up and will rather shift their focus completely to the Turkish first division, where they must definitely improve quickly if they wish to fight for the spots that lead to European competitions next season.
Missing players: M. Batshuayi (injury), A. Hasić (injury), G. N'koudou (injury), M. Pjanić (injury), V. Rosier (injury), D. Vida (injury)
I think Besiktas lacks too much quality and will be unable to protect from the offensive power of Sporting, which could result in another convincing big win and the odds are definitely high enough to take. Also, the Turks must open up and attack if they wish to keep their chances of finishind 3rd alive, which will allow Sporting to exploit their defensive weaknesses even further. Offensively, Sporting is in a good form and they do not struggle at all to score against weaker teams and Besiktas is definitely a weaker team at the moment.
Best of luck!
