An interesting second matchup between Milan and Porto, this time in Italy. In their first outing 2 weeks ago, Porto beat Milan with 1-0 in front of their own fans. Both teams are having a superb season in domestic league so far, but their good performances did not translate from their home leagues to the Champions League.
Milan is currently 2nd in Serie A with same amount of points as leaders Napoli and the match against Porto came right between 2 very important Serie A matches for them. They're coming off a very important victory in Rome, where they beat Roma 1-2. On Sunday, November 7th, they are hosting Inter in a heated local derby that will take place on glorious San Siro. Meanwhile, they are last in group B in the Champions League and definitely need to start getting points if they wish to fight for the 2nd place or even 3rd place, which takes them to Europa League. They have lost all 3 matches so far and all of them with the margin of just 1 goal. I would not be shocked, if their mind is already on the Milano derby, as they don't really have any realistic chances to progress in European competition and winning the Scudetto is just too important for the club which didn't win it since the 2010/2011 season. It is too late to improve in the Champions League and their focus must surely be on the Serie A. Quite unlucky for them to lose all 3 Champions League matches with the minimum margin and with a bit of luck things could be different. They definitely deserved some points, as they keep showing good performances this season, but this is football after all. I don't think they will give 100% in this match, but I also don't think they will completely surrender, as nobody wants to lose in front of their own fans, especially in Italy.
Missing players: F. Ballo Toure (injury), S. Castillejo (injury), A. Florenzi (injury), M. Maignan (injury), J. Messias (injury), A. Plizzari (injury), A. Rebić (injury)
Porto, on the other side, is in a bit better situation. They are currently 1st in Liga Portugal with 29 points, but Sporting (also 29 points) and Benfica (28 points) are right behind them. They have shown very consistant performances this season and they're still unbeaten in their home league with an average of 2.5 goals scored per match. In Champions League, they're currently sitting at 3rd place in groub B with same number of points as Atletico Madrid at 2nd place and 5 points behind Liverpool. With the exception of 1-5 defeat against Liverpool, they've shown 2 good performances, drawing vs. Atletico and winning in their last match vs. Milan. They are known as a very compact and well-structured team, which often proves extremely hard to crack in the Champions League, even for much bigger clubs. Honestly, I do not see them losing this match and at the sime time I think that they would be fairly happy with a draw.
Missing players: T. Esteves (injury), I. Marcano (injury), A. Uribe (injury), Wendell (injury)
I believe we will see a very tight match between Milan and Porto with not many goals scored. A draw with a scoreline of 0-0 or 1-1 is a very realistic outcome here. Milan does not have any real ambitions left for Champions League and Porto, on the other side, is in a relatively good position after 3 matches. Therefore, I belive that both teams will just try to not lose this match, instead of trying to win it and they will play a more structured and secure game. My pick for this match is under 2.5 goal line as the odds are of a high value. An alternative pick could be a draw with the odds of 3.40, but I see under 2.5 as a safer bet here.
Best of luck!
